Supporting refugees in the UK: MTS helps RefuAid clients take subsidised IELTS tests at six of its exam centres
Matthew Steele

MTS delivered British Council-subsidised IELTS tests to 26 RefuAid clients as part of the charity's programme supporting refugees into jobs and higher education.
For many refugees arriving in the UK, the qualifications and experience they bring with them are only part of the picture. To go back to work or study, they often need to prove their English, and an IELTS result can be the key that opens that door.
As part of our commitment to corporate social responsibility, MTS is proud to be working with the British Council and RefuAid to help refugees take that step. RefuAid is a charity that supports refugees into employment, language learning and education. By removing barriers like the cost of testing, it helps people rebuild their lives and careers in the UK.
26 test takers so far
In 2025, MTS delivered British Council-subsidised IELTS tests to 17 RefuAid clients as part of the charity's programme supporting refugees into jobs and higher education. So far in 2026, a further nine clients have sat their tests with us, bringing the total to 26.
These candidates took their tests at six of our 15 IELTS venues: London, Birmingham, Glasgow, Belfast, Manchester and Newcastle. Spreading the sessions across the country meant candidates could test close to where they live, without the added cost and stress of long journeys.
More than a test result
Behind every one of these 26 tests is someone working to build a new life in the UK. It might be a career they've had to put on hold, a university place they're working towards, or simply the chance to be recognised for the skills they already have. We're proud to play a small part in helping them get there, and we look forward to supporting more RefuAid clients in the months ahead.
