In an era where the need for qualified healthcare professionals in the UK is ever-increasing, supporting pathways to employment within the NHS and private healthcare sectors is an important topic. We are delighted to announce that MTS now runs OET (Occupational English Test) exams in Manchester.

Why OET?

The OET exam is designed explicitly for people working in the healthcare sector (doctors and nurses), and the OET test provides a benchmark for language communication skills in a professional medical environment. Unlike generic English exams, the OET exam provides a more relevant assessment of language proficiency through medical-setting role plays and real healthcare scenarios. This specificity makes the OET exam a tailored choice for healthcare professionals and the institutions that employ them.

Doctors and nurses who pass the OET exam demonstrate their readiness to effectively communicate in medical contexts, thus ensuring safety and enhancing the quality of patient care. Given this alignment with professional demands, a large number of organisations, including private providers such as HCA Healthcare and as well as all of the publicly-funded NHS Trusts accept OET as well as other English language tests like IELTS.

Why MTS and Connell Co-Op College in Manchester?

MTS is working in partnership with the prestigious Connell Co-Op College, located in the vibrant city of Manchester. This modern sixth-form college is not just an ordinary exam venue, but an integral part of the candidates' success. With state-of-the-art facilities such as high quality speakers for the listening element of the OET test and a large and brightly-lit examination hall, Connell Co-Op College provides an ideal setting for OET candidates to perform at their best.

MTS has been delivering OET exams in Manchester since January 2024, but only started running the exams from Connell Co-Op College from April 2024. The first exam session held at the college were attended by a number of MTS’s head office staff including MTS’s Head of Business Development Korina Freese.

Korina chatted to some of the OET test takers to ask them about their experience sitting the exam with MTS at Connell Co-Op college. She spoke to three test takers; Azadeh, Payam and Farhad, all originally from Iran and applying to become doctors in the UK. Azadeh commented “We are very happy with the venue. The test room is very suitable.” and Payam added: “Everything ran smoothly and all the MTS people are very friendly.”
