Many of our venues let you choose between taking IELTS on paper or computer. Just remember, both need to be done in person at an Official IELTS Test Centre.
The speaking part is always face-to-face with a trained examiner, no matter which way you sit your test.
What you need to know about IELTS on Computer.
Taking IELTS on computer means you’ll be reading questions on a computer screen and submitting your answers using a keyboard and mouse.
This is a fantastic option if you’re already quite comfortable with computers, and it’s a bonus that your test results will be available much faster than the IELTS on paper option.
When will I receive my IELTS on Computer Test results?
For the IELTS on computer test, you’ll get your results within 3 to 5 days. You can then log into your Test Taker Portal to see your results and get an electronic version of your Test Report Form.
This electronic Test Report Form (eTRF) is a downloadable PDF document that you can share or print as many times as you like.
If you’d rather have a paper copy of your Test Report Form, you’ll need to take the IELTS on paper test. The IELTS on computer test only gives you an eTRF PDF file.

What you need to know about IELTS on Paper.
Taking IELTS on paper means you’ll be reading questions on paper and writing your answers with a pen. This is a great option if you’re not very comfortable with computers, but it does mean your results might take a bit longer to come through. They need to be collected and securely transported before your answers can be checked.
When will I get my IELTS on Paper Test results?
You can usually expect to get your IELTS on Paper results 13 days after the test. You can log into your Test Taker Portal to see them and get a Test Report Form sent to you by tracked and signed post.
You’ll get just one copy of the form by post.
Just a heads-up: if the original gets lost or damaged, you won’t be able to get a replacement copy.
